From Our Own CorresDondent. School Committee Mefatlng. The monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Monday evening, theie being present Messrs W. J Amies (chairman). 11. Howe (secretary). C. Lino, a. Hill. L Simpson. The committee passed a vote of sympathy with Mr and Mrs Fitzgerald in their recent sad bereavement. The head teacher reported that the children had been provided with hot cocoa with their lunches during the last month, and the committee decided to paj the expenses of this during the remainder of the winter term. A grant of was also authorised for the purchase oi books for the lower classes. The Calf Club and root growing competitions were fully discussed and the following were appointed to act this year: Calf Club, supervisor, Mr H. Rowe; assistant, Mr A. Hill; rootgrowing competition, Messrs Simonson and C. Lind. Sports. Playing at Rongotea on Saturday, Kopane ladies secured an overwhelming victory against the local team by 31 goals In the school matchs against Oroua Downs, the local girls snatched a narrow victory at the last moment by 5 goals to 4, while the boys defeated the visitors by 16 points to 3. As a result of the trial match played last Saturday, the following boys have been selected to play in a schools’ Rugby match, Te Kawau v. Palmerston North, on the Kopane ground at 10.30 next Saturday morning: A Schriber (Rongotea), M. Hill (Kopane), Murphy (Glen Oroua), E Hunt (Rangiotu), Oliver (Oroua Downs), A. Gill (Glen Oroua), C. Saturday, when the Nightingale and Canary Patrols entertained fellow Guides and friends at a party to further the funds for the Sir Truby King memorial. The Guides responsible for the function had made the hall look very gay with coloured streamers and balloons, while bowls of autumn 1 flowers and foliage added to the attrac- | tiveness. Games and coompetitions made j the time pass all too quickly and the ' thirty-odd girls present were very ready ! for the dainty afternoon tea. also provided !by the two hostess patrols. The winners of tho various competitions were Miss Davis, Raj' Knox. Joan Churchill and Jean : Gennills.
