From Our Own Correspondent. Farm Buildings Destroyed. On Monday afternoon the wash-house, implement shed and whare. at the rear of Air E. A. Payton's residence, were destroyed by fire. When discovered, the fire had a good hold and although Airs Payton’s small car was saved, a hay-rake, lawn mower and other tools were destroyed as well as bedding and clothing from the whare and a large quantity of preserves and jam from the store-room.. Tho origin of the fire is a mystery, and although the buildings were insured it is understood that tho owners have suffered a substantial loss. Bridegroom Entertained. The men friends of Mr Charlie McKenzie gathered on Alonday evening to celebrate the ending of his bachelor days. Air W. J. Osborne conveyed tlie good wishes of the Football Club and Athletic Club members to Air McKenzie, for every happiness in the future. Air McKenzie thanked his friends for their good wishes and the jolly function arranged In his honour. Home Science Committee. Airs C. AI. Stanley presided over a meeting of the Home Science committee for the arrangement of classes for the District High School girls. A welcome was extended to Airs W. Hogan, who lxts taken Airs Bird’s place on tho committee. Also present were Atesdames S. H. White, J. R. Osborne and Mr Osborne. The S.A.R. box lectures are proving very interesting and instructive to the girls. A further programme of demonstxations and lec* ttures was arranged for classes until September 15. Airs Stanley served afternoon tea and was later thamced. Mr A. W. Benseinan is spending a week in Wellington.
