Views of English Women On Use of Make-up
COST OF GLAMOUR. LONDON, June 4. English girls have been comparing notes on the cost of glamour, following the raising of the subject recently in a New Zealand Court. Make-up is regarded as a necessity, not a luxury. Miss Jane Roberts, a JL,ondon telephonist, considers that the New Zealand K.C. under-estimated when he held that every gill must spend at least 15s a year on powder, 4s on lip-stick, 10s on face cream and £2 on hair-dressing. “My hair curls naturally, but I am pretty sure the ordinary girl spends at least £5 a year on her hair/* said Miss Roberts. ‘‘On face powder X spend a guinea a year, lipstick and face cream each cost me 12s. ” Miss Hcrmione Baddeley, the actress, said: ‘‘My expenditure on my appearance is not small, as it is a professional asset. Attention to my hair costs mo more than £1 a week—which is ten times as much as many business girls spend. “X spend £3 12s a year on face powder, £3 a year on lipstick, £7 4s a year on face cream. And I don’t waste money. ’ ’
