The disappearance of the foundation stone of the new Christchurch law courts building beneath a metal casing has aroused a certain amount of apprehension among some members of the legal profession. Workmen have just completed the job of building a casing round the stone and its base to protect it from the weather, and this fact prompted one solicitor to remark that when the stone was laid by the Governor-General (Lord Galway) over two months ago, an almost immediate start on the building work was promised. So far, ho said, nothing had been done, and the altest move seems to imply that nothing would be done for a long time to come.
