Palmerston North Friendly Societies’ Ball
Gaily coloured balloons and native ferns emphasised the air of gaiety ■which prevailed at the second annual ball of the Palmerston North Friendly Societies’ Council held last evening in the Empire Hall. There was a particularly gratifying attendance and the M.C’s, Messrs. J. Prisk and G. H. Shelly “kept the ball rolling” with a bright programme of modern and oldtime dances to the music of a professional orchestra. | The ladies’ committee responsible for arrangements were Sisters H. Turner who was wearing black satin beaute, W. Kells, black crepe de chine with corsage spray; C. Edwards, brown floral mariette and black and white embossed georgette coatee; Miss O. Rosanoski, pink floral crepe de chine. These ladies k were also responsible for the bountiful 'supper served. | The men’s committee was as follows: Bros. F. Holgerson (president), C. V. 'Christiansen (secretary), J. Prisk, G. H. ■ Shelly, J. Manning, W. Buchanan and S. G. Northey. | The winners of novelty dances were Miss L. Lyall and Mr. B. Bainbridge and Mr. and Mrs. T. Wylie (Monte Carlos), Miss M. Rosanoski and Mr. S. Linton (lucky Gay Gordons). During the evening occasion was taken by the president, Bro. Holgerson, to present a past president, Brother W. Buchanan, with a past president’s jewel suitably inscribed. In eulogising the services rendered by Bro. Buchanan, Bro. Holgerson said he had been an outstanding president and had held the position for two years and during which he accomplished many necessary works in his period of office. Brother Holgerson also welcomed those present and-thanked everyone for their co-operation which had made the function the success it was.
