Te Kawau Basketball Association

ANNUAL MEETING. Lively interest was shown by the full attendance of delegates and members at the annual meeting of the Te Kawau Basketball meeting, at Rongotea on Monday evening. Mrs Wilson Bcott was in the chair, and called upon the secretary, Mrs R. O. Gloyn to read the annual report, as under:— “The 1937 season was again a most successful one. Although not so many teams were affiliated, the competitions were not so evenly contested as in previous years. There being insufficient teams to have a B grade competition on Mondays, it was decided to have two separate competitions on Mondays and Wednesdays, Rongotea winning the Wednesday competition, with Oroua Downs as runners-up, and Kopane winning tho Monday competition, in which only three teams competed. As the Monday competition finished earlier, a sealed handicap was commenced, which was won by Rangiotu, with a margin two points from Glen Oroua, who they defeated by one goal. The association wishes to thank Mrs J. Hill for the donation of a cup for this competition. In the representative games, the teams were well catered for, travelling to Levin, Wanganui, Pahiatua, Feilding and Palmerston North, and in this connection the thanks of the association are due to all those who placed their cars at tho disposal of the representatives. Through the support of the club and their supporters, we were able to send a team to the Auckland tournament. Although they did not win a match, it is considered that they gained a better knowledge of the game, and their experience will prove of benefit to their team mates. Thanks are due to Mr and Mrs J. Hill and Mrs R. C. Hill, for accompanying the team, and to Mrs W. A. Davison for acting in the capacity as delegate at the Dominion conference. The annual ball was again a huge success, and thanks are due to all those who helped at this function and also to those who helped on the stalls during the Show. The association also wishes to thank Mr and Mrs W. A. Davison for their generous donations and the anonymous donor of the tennis racquet, and all others who helped to make the season a successful one.”

The financial statement showed a satisfactory credit balance. The meeting then proceeded to the election of officers as follows:—Patron, Mrs Russell (Rangiotu); vice-presi-dents, Mrs W. A. Gloyn, who had Carried on these duties for the last three years, but now wished to be relieved of office. Miss P. Teaz consented to carry on till the next meeting, when the permanent secretary will bo appointed. At this juncture, Mr Hill, who had

assisted in managing tho team which travelled to Auckland, said that he w’ished to express the pleasure it had been to be associated with the members, and that no praise was too high for their general conduct and demean-
