All Saints’ Branch Of Mothers’ Union

ANNUAL meeting held The annual general meeting of All ♦Saints’ branch of the Mothers’ Union took place yesterday afternoon in the girls’ clubroom, Canon G. Y. Woodward presiding over a large attendance. Prior to the meeting a short service was conducted in the Lady Chapel by Canon Woodward. The tea hostesses were Mesdames O. Dunstan, E. Ashcroft, T. Inglis and A. Hunt, and the door hostesses, Mesdames L Brougham and W. Inkpen. Annual Report The annual report, submitted by the

secretary (Mrs. C. E. Metcalfe), was as follows:

The meetings throughout the year had been well attended and the interest maintained. As Canon and Mrs. Woodward were leaving for a trip to England, the annual meeting was held in February. Mrs. F. Dawick was elected enrolling member and nine new members were elected during the year. The affiliation with the National Council of Women was continued with Mrs. Briden-Jones as representative. A Fellowship of Marriage brand'll had been formed with Mrs. Finch as secretary. A very successful social afternoon was held with members from Tokomaru, Foxton, Shannon, Ashhurst and St. Peter's present as guests. An invitation was. received from Wanganui ,to attend the festival on Lady Day and

several members attended. An invitation from Marton was received to a meeting there. Invitations were also received from Foxton and Shannon to their birthday parties. During the year visitors were welcomed from Otahuhu, Gisborne and Wellington, also Mrs. Buck, the Mothers' Union representative on the Diocesan Council. A resolution sent to the Diocesan Council suggesting that the Mothers' Union branches in the diocese contribute to the font in the new cathedral, the font to be dedicated to the Mothers' Union, was favourably received. A telegram congratulating Dean Fancourt on his elevation to Dean of St. Mary's, Auckland, was sent. Members assisted at the jubilee tea for the Sunday school. A tablet was erected by members and dedicated by Canon Woodward to the memory of Florence Beatrice Tucker, who had been a great church, worker. Rev. and Mrs. Langston came in March and returned to Lltham in November. Mr.* Langston became a member whil3 here. Mrs. Rush resigned as organist and Mrs. Willerman kindly took her place. To all the speakers who gave helpful and interesting talks sincere thanks were tendered, also to all wlio helped with the musical items, which were very much appreciated. Thauks were also expressed to the reporters who came every month and gave full reports of the meetings; also to the tea and door hostesses. Moving the adoption of the report, Canon Woodward said it showed a very gratifying year and he congratulated the members ou the scheme for the proposed font for the new cJt\hedral in Wellington. He also congratulated the branch on the healthy state of its finances as shown by the balance-sheet compiled by the treasurer (Mrs. Eckersley). Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. G. Y. Woodward (re-elected); enrolment member, Mrs. E. Da wick (re-elected); secretary Mrs. C. E. Metcalfe (re-elected.); treasurer, Mrs. J. Eckersley (re-elect-ed); committee, Mesdames J. Ax, I. Brougham, T. Inglis, E. Wollermau, K. Finch, C. Langridge, N. Ratcliffe, J. Kennedy, A. Hunt, G. H. Bagnall and W. Briden-Jones; tea convenors, Mesdames O. Dunstan and E. Ashcroft (reelected); door hostesses, Mesdames I. Brougham and W. Inkpen; hospital and Awapuni Home visitors, Mesdames T. Kennedy and I. Brougham. Arrangements for Lady Day festival were discussed, Canon Woodward reporting that Canon Petrie would conduct Holy Communion in the morning, alter which a luncheon would be held and followed by a social afternoon at which Rev. F. S. Ramson would be the speaker. Visitors would be present from Marton, Foxton, Tokomaru, Shannon, Ashhurst aud St. Peter's branches.
