“Five o’ Clock” Party For Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Major

In a round of gay “bon voyage” parties for Mr and Mrs F. J. Major, in view of their early departure on a holiday visit overseas, one of the most delightful was that at which the hostesses were Mrs W. L. Fitzherbert, and Mrs L. Martyn- Abraham. Some seventy guests were hospitably entertained ox this occasion at a “Five o'clock” party, the function taking place at tho residence of Mr and Mrs Fitzherbert, Broadway Avenue.

Mrs Fitzherbert wore a frock of amethysts silk velvet, Mrs Abraharu appearing in black crepe romaine with sequin belt, the guest of honour having chosen a frock of cream and navy floral silk, and a cream straw hat relieved with navy.

In the drawing room where the guests were received, bronze zinnias and gladioli formed the attractive decorations, and in the dining room a cheery vote was struck with pink zinnias and pink pompom dahlias on the table from which savouries in great variety mere* served.

This popular couple carry with them the*good wishes of a host of friends for pleasant journeyings and will receive a warm welcome here on their return in six months' time. Wanganui branch sent an apology as they would be holding their festival on the same day. It was decided that corporate communion for the Mothers' Union will be held on the fourth {Sunday of each month at the 8 o'clock morning service. Mrs. Finch reported on the Fellowship of Marriage Council. It was decided to discontinue affiliation to the National Council of Women. Mrs. Linda Bennett was appointed literary secretary. A timely injunction was issued to members by Canon Woodward, who said that in this period of troublesome world affairs, the world needed the slogan, “Back to God."
