Tl»* committee representing- the Apltl Women's Institute and the Women’s Di- 0 Vision of the Farmers’ Union, to arrange r home science studies for the girls of the , secondary department of the Apiti school, t met on Thursday afternoon at the resi- , dene* of Mrs Birch. Those present were ( Mesdan.es Stanley, A. W. Bird. J. It. Os- ( borne, A. Ft. M6Nae. J. H. Cowan and Mr j J. R. Osborne. Mrs Stanley was elected , to the chair, and Mrs Osborne as aecre- , tary. The box lecture® are. by arrangement with Mies Johnson of Massey Col- ■ lege, to be studied by the girls under the ! guidance of members of tho W.I. Study : Croup. Other demonstrations in eookory, needlework, first aid. and gardening, axe to bo arranged, and where possible, members of the two organisations represented on the committee, will be called upon to assist the girls, and it la encouraging to the committee and the teachers to know that local women are so interested in the ideas put forward. Mrs Bird •erevd afternoon tea and was thanked by ail present. W.I. Study Group. Members of the W.I. Home Science Study Group met on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs L. Gould, to study the third home nursing lecture. Mrs Watkins was the leader and interesting discussions followed, on the treatments and nursing of infectious diseases, and every member felt that some worthwhile knowledge had been gained as the result of opinions shared. Mrs Gould served supper, and the hostess, leader and secretary were later thanked. The next box lecture is on rock gardening, and this will be an afternoon meeting in Mrs John Jensen's garden. Sheep Dog Trials. The Apiti sheep dog trials on Saturday proved an attraction to farmers and their friends from all the surrounding districts. Mr S. J. Strahan’s property is very suitable for this purpose, and as the weather was so delightful the interested spectators were able to view the events while enjoying the warm sunshine. The committee is to be congratulated on the organisation of the day’s programme, and the increasing number of entries in each section clearly shows that their efforts are appreciated by those interested in dog trials. Messrs F. Munro (secretary). Hugh Cowan, M. Jacobs, G. Burton. Tom Osborne, and E. Osborne comprised the committee. The Judges were Messrs 11. Stewart and W. M. Stewart, of Waiata. The awards were as follow: Long head and pull (open): J. Crookes • Blue,” 1, A. Cleghorn’s “Sweep.” 2, Trophy, the Awawaro silver challenge cup, presented by Mr C. Johnstone. Bong head and pull (maiden). (Silver cup donated by Mr Evan Osborne, of Apltl): J. Crooke s “Blue’’ 1. G. Burton’s ••Skip” 2. Huntaway, open (Silver cud donated by Mr A. London, of Valley road): A. A Ward’s “Jim” 1, C. C. Osborne s "Hawk” 2. Huntaway, maiden, (club trophy): C. C. Osborne’s “Hawk” 1, F. Munro’s “Sandy” Mr C. McKay loaned the sheep, which were in excellent condition. Luncheon and afternoon tea were served by members of the Apiti Women’s Institute committee and helpers. Mesdamcs W. M. Duncan. A. W. Benseman. W. Hogan. A. W. Bird. C. Stanley. L. Gould, G. Watkins, R. Churcher, Misses S. Malone and Madge McKay, who were well satisfied with the financial results of their efforts to augment the W.I. funds. A number of locxtl school choldren attended the primary school sports in Feilding on Saturday and congratulations go to those who scored points for the Apiti school Personal. Mrs G. Souness and her son. Garth, of Tuakau, axe holidaying in Apiti, and are staying with Mrs F. Munro. after which they will be the guests of Mrs J. R. Stewart. Mrs A. T. Mclntyre, of Whatatutu, Is staying with her mother. Mrs Duncan. Miss Joan Mapson is on a holiday visit to Taumarunui. Miss W. Oakley, who has been visiting several friends in Apiti, is at present with Mrs C. M. Stanley before returning to her home at Havelock North.
