FIRM MARKET

Waipukurau Ewe Fair

ANIMATED BIDDING From Our Own Correspondent. The market held fully firm for ewes at the second fair held at Waipukurau to-day. Values showed a tendency to improve for young sheep especially, and some entries of two-tooths were fully a 1/- a head dearer to-day. The top lines were not quite so well grown as the best Entries at the opening fair. A good quality line on account of Mr C. Pattison, of “The Brow,” realised 34/2. Bidding was very animated and there was a good enquiry for all kinds. The yarding was approximately 23,000. Many of the entries were off high and hard country, and being well mouthed should do particularly well in lower country that has been topdressed. Some of these lines were making the best buying of the day. Several lines off well-known station properties showed good breeding and were very even in the wool. Six-year ewes showing good mouths were in demand, and a line in good condition on account of Mr H. G. Dalby, of Porangahau, made 23/1. Wellgrown early shorn four and six-tooth ewes made to 29/9, which made better buying than many of the older lines. During the earlier selling the top price for five-year ewes was 26/3, for a line on account of Motere Station. As the sale progressed the values were being well maintained and very few lots were passed.
