Pahiatua Supplementary Ewe Fair

FABMEBS> CO-OP. REPORT. The N.Z. Farmers 1 Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report a general improvement in prices for ewes at the supplementary ewe fair held on Tuesday, the 22nd February, 1938, when a good yarding of sheep came forward from local farmers, and met with good competition from local and outside buyers. The sheep generally were in good order, and top lines were freely sought after, a total clearance being affected. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report: — At our second ewe fair a large entry eame forward to be submitted to a fair attendance from local and. outside districts. Compared with the previous ewe fair the sale opened with a better tone and increased prices maintained throughout. Best hues of ewes were keenly sought after and these showed the best advance in value. Prices throughout, however, met with the approval of vendors and we disposed of the whole of our entry of 3200 odd ewes. Two-tooth, ewes: Account Mr A. Booth, a pen of well grown ewes topped the 2-th section at 37s fid. Other prices are: Account Mr Mitchell, medium do., 30s Bdj account Hislop Bros., do. 30s; account J. Crawford, do. 28s; account A. Finlay, 28s; account A. D. Eglinton, 255; account H. A. Styles. 235. Four-year ewes: A fine line of this age offered in conjunction with Dalgety and Co. on behalf of Mr W. C. Lassen realised 29s Id; account L. H. Daken, 28s 2d; account T. F. Herbert, 4, 6 and 4-year, 245; account W. Mitchell, 4, 6 and 4-year, 19s lOd to 27s sd. Five-year ewes: Account F. McGregorie, 26s 8d; account A. Knox, 225; account J. Y. Crawford, 5 and 6-year, 22s 8d; account Robinson Estate, 4 and 5-year 25s 9d; account Jno. Olsen, 26s 6d; account Jno. Anderson, 5 and 6year 225; account Jas. Gardiner, 20s; account A. J. Patchett, 21s 7d; account F. T. Herbert, 20s 3d.

Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report a good yarding of ewes of all ages at the above fair, the quality which is usual not being up to the standard of the first fair. Nevertheless, several lines of good ewes were submitted, these meeting with spirited competition, low conditioned aged ewes not meeting with the best of sales. Practically a total clearance was effected at auction, the bulk of the offering being secured by Manawatu buyers. Quotations: — Good 4 and 5-year ewes, 22s fid, 23s 6d, 245, 255, 2fis, 26s 6d; 4-year ewes, 265, 27s 6d, 28s to 29s Id; low conditioned sound mouthed ewes, 225, 22s fid, 235, 23s 6d; aged ewes, 16s, 18s, 18s 6d, 19s to 20s; fattening ewes, 9s, 10s, 11s, 12s, 13s, to 14s; 2-th ewes, good, 335, 345, 34s 6d, 34s 9d, to 355; 2-th ewes, medium, 265, 27s to 28s 6d.
