Attempt to Oust Lang
NEW SOUTH WALES LABOUR SPLIT United Press Association—By El o ctrlo Telegraph-—Copyright. SYDNEY, Feb. 24. A meeting of industrial unions opposed to Mr. J. T. Lang, State Labour leader, elected as their leader Mr. R. Heffron, M.L.A. He will lead a number of union candidates against the official Australian Labour Party candidates at the State elections. This decision indicates that for thi first time in the history of the Stati Labour movement rival State Labouf leaders and rival candidates each claiming to represent the workers will contest the State elections. The meeting also endorsed Mr. J. Hooker as Labour candidate against Mr. Lang in the Auburn electorate and decided to concentrate all its forces upon bringing about the defeat of Mr. Lang. Mr. Heffron was born at Thames, New Zealand, and was actively associated with the New Zealand Labour movement about 20 years ago.
