Mrs. J. S. Lumsden, of Feilding, left yesterday to make her future home in Wellingto:i. Mrs E. Conway, Palmerston North, is visiting her sister, Mrs J. B. Taylor, Matangi, Waikato. Mesdames L. Wood, M. Lee and W. M. Tapp left yesterday for Napier, where thley will take part in the Hawke’s Bay Croquet tournament. Miss E. M. North, of the teaching staff of the Wellington East Girls’ College, has been appointed principal of the Wellington Girls ’ College. Believed to be the first woman nurse in the world to care for sick male convicts in a prison hospital is Sister Steele, who is now working as a nurse at the Parkhurst Prison, Isle of Wight. Her appointment is part of the Government’s ;prison reform scheme. If she proves successful women nurses may be introduced to other men’s pisons ini the country. Sister Steele’s duties are same as those of the present male nurses, but she only deals with the most serious cases. She lives in special quarters outsido the prison.
