Mr. J. W. Sturton, a Pahiatua Borough Councillor, who has just returned from the recent library conference at Nelson, was fortunate while there to be the guest of Hon. H. Atmore, M J*., who has in his possession Lord Nelson's telescope used in the battle of Trafalgar. Mr. Atmore said the treasured possession was on loan to him and was owned by a relative of the famous admiral.
The sterling services given by Miss Nora Irving, who acted as morning organist at St. Peter’s Church for the last 12 years, were fittingly recognised on the eve of her marriage by her being presented with a set of crystal glasses and jug. The vicar, Rev. H. Wilson, thanked Miss Irving for all she had done for the Church and wished her much happiness in her married life. Miss Irving suitably responded. Pupils of the Pahiatua district school held their swimming sports in the borough baths yesterday. The day was very suitable, as the weather was extremely hot. Mr. Sefton Walsh acted as controller of the events and the programme was enjoyed by parents, visitors and children alike.
