Star Swims In Mountain Waters
Ginger Rogers can take it “and still smile." This was proved during the filming of her new RKO Radio picture "Having Wonderful Time" in which she stars with Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. With the water down to forty degrees. Miss Rogers had to swim across Bartless Lake in the San Bernardino mountains for important scenes in the film. Refusing a double, she elected to do all of the “takes" personally, and as a result was in and out of the icy water for two entire days. Between shots she was wrapped in warm blankets and given hot chocolate, and emerged from the ordeal without any bad effects.
Gilbert Emery, who plays the part of an English officer in Cecil B. DeHille’s “The Buccaneer," starring Fredric March, wrote the play "Tarnish" iu which March achieved his first success.
Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of England, took a day off from his duties of state to visit the Denham Studios on October 5. After getting an eyeview of the intricacies of picture-mak-ing, Mr Chamberlain turned film star and made a “short” in which he discussed some of the ideals of the National Government. The film will be used by the Government for propaganda work. Mr Chamberlain also took time off to see Samuel Goldwyn’s "Dead End" privately.
A Brooklyn movie fan has the disnction of writing the “most-travelled tter" to a screen star. This was reeled recently when Franciska Gaal ceived the letter in Paramount’s ollywood studios, where she had just impletcd “The Buccaneer" with Fredc March. The letter was mailed last ugust. It was addressed to a Berlin udio where Miss Gaal made a feature veral years ago. The note was forward 1 from there to Miss Gaal’s home in udapest; postal authorities continued s trip to the United States.
