Hi* Excellency the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, attended by his two aides-de-camp, Captain R. Stuart French and Lieutenant S. R. Le H. LombardHobson, R.N., arrived at Wellington yesterday from Sydney by the Awatea. His Honour Sir John Reed will arrive in Palmerston North to-day from Wanganui in preparation for a Supreme Court civil caße which is to commence to-morrow. Commander A. Matthews, R.N. (retired) of London, was a passenger by the Mariposa. He intends to tour New Zealand during the next six weeks, before returning to England. Mr. A. G. O. Hodgson, provincial commissioner for Nyassaland, arrived from San Francisco by the Mariposa in the course of a world tour. He is accompanied by Mrs. Hodgson. Mr. Angus S. Mitchell, of Melbourne, a director of Rotary International, was a passenger by the Mariposa after attending a meeting of the international board in Chicago. Mr. Mitchell has been in America for three months. Mr. J. A. Kyd has resigned his position as clerk to the Howick Town Board. He has been clerk and solicitor to the board for tho past six years, and he has recently been in Australia, where he intends to live. Sympathy with Dr. C. W. Peach in his present illness was voiced by the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday, and tho hope was expressed that he would be speedily restored to health. Major Arthur Purvis, who has relinquished his position as military secretary to the Governor-General, left Wellington by tho Limited express last evening in company with Mrs. Purvis for Auckland, en route to England. Mr. H. H. Mackrell, who recently resigned from the position of building inspector to the Palmerston North City Council to take up a private appointment, has been re-appointed to tie position. .Sympathy with Cr. J. J. Stevenson in the continued serious illness of Mrs. Stevenson was expressed last night by the Palmerston North City Council, which is to write to him voicing the hope that she will be speedily restored to good health. The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Hansford) and the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. G. Tremaine; will represent the Palmerston North City Council at the annual conference of the New Zealand Municipal Electric Supply Association ,to be held at New Plymouth on March 2. Mr. A. S. M. Hely, who has been connected with the Workers’ Educational Association in Auckland since 1932, has been appointed as an additional full-time tutor-organiser in the movement in the Victoria University College district, Wellington. Dr. J. Campbell McKenzie, medical superintendent of tho Timaru Hospital, his brother, Dr. Donald McKenzie, of Auckland, and Dr. E. I. A. Macdonald, also of Auckland, returned by the Mariposa ou Friday after visiting various medical centres in the United States and Canada. Constable J. B. Wakclin, who has been attached to the Wellington Boutb police station for the past three mouths, has received notice of his transfer to Wanganui. He is a keen Rugby footballer, and has played for the Oriental Club for the past two seasons and in several police teams. Baron and Baroness Marcel de Giey, of Belgium, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Friday. They have just completed a tour of America, and will spend about a month sightseeing in New Zealand before going to Australia. Rev. Father Leo Spring, of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Napier, left during the week-end for Auckland, where he is to represent the Napier parish at the Roman Catholic centenary celebrations, which commence this week.
