WAITUNA WEST. The February meeting of the Women's Institute, which was to have been in the form of a picnic, unfortunately had to be cancelled, there being insufficient means of transport available for the members. March is the election month and members, are reminded that; there is still time to send in their nominations for the new committee to the secretary. The following are next on the list to act as hostesses for the March meeting: Mrs J. Old, Miss T. Old, Mrs Meads, and Mrs A. E. Pearce. KTJMEROA-HOPELANDS. At the monthly meeting Mrs Miller presided over a fair attendance of members and visitors. It was decided to hold a euchre and dance on 26th inst. The roll call "Dont's" brought forward some useful hints and recipes. A competition for sweets hard and soft resulted:—Miss Smith 1 and 2 for hard lollies, Mrs Macky 1 and 2 for soft lollies. Mrs Johnston from Messey College gave a demonstration on dressmaking. A hearty vote of thanks was passed for her kindness in coming so far. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Misses Wareham, Jones and Toogood. PAHIATUA The Pahiatua Women's Institute held its monthly meeting on Tuesday afternoon. A picnic at Carnival Park had been planned for this .meeting, but the idea was abandoned on account of unfavourable weather conditions, members however, spent a happy afternoon in St. Peter's schoolroom with games and competitions. Mrs E. B. Watson, president, was in the chair an d there was a'good attendance of members. An apology for absence was received by Mrs R. Darley. The motto for the day was, "It’s the greatest mistake to do nothing because you can do little." Nominations for the new committee must reach the hon. secretary, Mrs L. Prussing, before the end of February. The president presented to Mrs T. Clarke the cip won for drama at the last festival. As Woodvillo and Pahiatua teams wore equal each team holds the cup for six months. A peanut treasure hunt caused much amusement and was won by Mrs Mackley's team. Afternoon tea was served at this juncture by the hostesses, Mesdames Austin, Crewe and G. Taylor assisted by members of the committee. The remainder of the afternoon was spent in community singing,' with Mrs W.H. Murch at the piano. Two competitions were won by Mrs W. Hall Watson and Mrs Mackley. The singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close. KONINI The monthly meeting of the Konini Women's Institute was held on Thursday last and Mrs Kelly presided over a fair attendance of members, her motto for the month being "Idle people have the least Plee.sure." There were fine entries in the competition for three jars of jam, Mrs Millar secured first place while Mrs Mabey secured second place. The competition for next month is the best sponge roll. The hostesses conducted a parcel game and Miss S. Smith was the winner. Nominations were taken for the committee for the coming seasor. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses Misses T. and R. Jensen. KIMBOLTON Mrs. Barnicoat presided over a failattendance at the February meeting. The speaker far the afternoon was Mr. L. J. Hodson, of Apiti, whose traveltalk was followed with the closest, interest by all i resent. Mrs. Barnicoat proposed a vote of thanks to tho speaker, after which afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Scott, Schmidt and Knox. The March competitions are as follow: Dahlias, collection (not more than 12); collection of pompoms; cactus; three decorative, and collection of asters. * The annual meeting will be held in March, and members are reminded that nominations for the new committee must be in the secretary's hands not later than February 28.
