Willard Home Board

CONSIDERS MONTH’S WORK The first meeting for the year of the Willard Home Board took place yesterday afternoon in St. Andrew's Sunday school room, Mrs. A. E. Collins presiding. Those present were Mesdames E. C. Barnett, J. L. McLeavey, C. Greig, E. B. Jennings, E. Shaw, D, J. Lovelock, K. McDonald, A. Andrews, N. Ratcliffo, E. A. Birdsall (secretary) and Miss M. Cranston. Apoolgies for absence were received from Mesdames T. R. Hodder, W. B. Cameron, R. Tims and F. J. Nathan. The resignation of Mrs. A. W. Just was received with Tegret, the secretary being instructed to write * a letter of thanks to Mrs. Just for her work on the board. Mrs. Ivan Wilson was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy left by Mrs. Just. The matron, Mrs. E. Anderson, submitted the following report for Decemr ber and January: In the first report for the year, the members were wished a Happy New Year and also God’s blessing on the Home and children. The children had had a happy time at Christmas, Mrs. Just and Mrs. Watson taking •* Father Christmas" to the Home, each child receiving a gift. On Christmas morning the usual tree was held. On December 29 the children departed to Napier and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, several picnics being held. The board members of the Hawke's Bay Children's Home were most kind in paying several visits to see if the children were comfortable. TTnfortunately owing to matron's illness, the proposed visit of one month had to be cut short to three weeks. Matron reported that both her holiday and Miss Pearce's were due and both would like to take them as soon as possible. The health of the children was good and the older children wished to thank the committee for their Christmas gifts.

A donation of £2 Is 2d was received from 2ZO Radio Club being nett funds left after the winding up of the station. The secretary, Mrs. Birdsall, who has held office for 18 years, intimated her intention of not standing for reelection this year. Correspondence was read and received * and the financial statement was adopted. In view of the holidays due to the matron and assistant matron, it was decided to advertise for two relieving matrons, and it was also decided to install individual lockers for the children’s clothes. The thanks of the board were due to the committee of the Hawke's Bay Children's Home for the free use of their home for three weeks' holiday. Accounts amounting to £l9 18s lid were passed for payment. It was decided to apply for a permit from the City Council to hold a street day on September 23.
