The Ideal Man

Some definitions of the ideal man were given by famous actresses at a literary luncheon at Grosvenor House, London.

Miss Cathleen Nesbitt said: “He must be of goodly statue—like Gary Cooper; his qualities must include a comely countenance, radient and modest charm, the humanity of the late John Galsworthy, and all these must be larded with the nice ripe humour of Mr George Robey. However, on reflection I remember that an ideal should be ‘possible but not realisable.' So I have come to the conclusion that the one quality I want of a man is that I can feel he is my master.

“I feel most strongly that man is the superior sex and -that woman's Teal place is to obey 1 . But t do not necessarily mean by this that any man is superior to any woman. But in the ordinary field t of endeavour a man can always beat a woman, and a man can only make a woman happy when he can make her feel thak-he. is superior to her.'*. . Vi-

They like someone whom they can either reform or. someone whom they can hold *P-” Miss Edith Day: “My ideal man is any man with -whom at the moment 1 happen to be in iote."

Miss Marie Burke: “My ideal man in musical comedy must be 6ft tall, h#ve no stomach, and sing like Tauber."

Mr George Robey: “My ideal man is one who can make his wife laugh at home, because just as no man is a hero to his valet, so no husband is a comic to his wife."
