From Our Own Correspondent. Valedictory. Very popular residents of the district. Mr and Mrs A. C. Vile and family, were tendered a farewell evening on Friday night by a large gathering of residents. Many visitors from other districts were present and a pleasant evening was spent in dancing and cards. In presenting Mr and Mrs Vile with an electric mixer, Mr D. Capstick expressed regret at the departure of such highly esteemed residents, who had been very willing to assist in furthering any worthy object, and wished them every success and happiness in their future home. Gifts were also presented to Master Lindsay and Misses Pattie and Beth Vile. Little Barbara Vile (niece), presented Mrs Vile with a posie. Mr Vile thanked everyone for the gifts and exj pressed regret at having to partially sever I friendships which he valued very much. | Their long stay in Ohakea had been most happy. Winners at cards were Mrs S. Ingram and Mr L. Sadler. Music was supplied by Mesdames H. Redpath and B. J. Frecklington, and Messrs H. McKinnon and Goode. Later in the evening Mr G. Murray, who is also leaving the district, was the recipient of a gift. School Committee. Mr F O. Bailey presided over the monthly meeting of the school committee, Messrs H. Ellery, L. Sadler. J. Capstick, and A. Hartley also being present. The head teacher’s report revealed a drop in the roll number, and stated that during the month a modified curriculum had been observed. It was decided to apply tc the Education Board for provision of bicycle accommodation, which had been granted last year. Application is also to be made for the laying down of an asphalt playing and drill area. Discussion on the possible effect of the proposed new drain past the school took place, and it was decided to approach the authorities to ascertain what the proposals were and, if necessary, protest against anything detrimental to t.he school’s interees. Mrs Riley and Mrs Blnns, of Freemantle, who have been the guests of their aunt, Mrs Harris, have left for Auckland. Miss Elfa Ellery has returned home much benefited by treatment in hospital.
