Queen of the Ice

ST. OLAF RIBBON FOR SONJA HENIE Twinkling skates of Miss Sonja Henie have pirouetted her into the Order of St. Olaf. Bestowed upon her by King Kafikon, the order is one of the highest c onferred by Norway for distinguished service to the country or humanity. Miss Henie thus crowns the trophies of her three victories at the Olympic Games—and an unbroken reign as the queen of figure skaters since 1928 with the gold and enamel cross, on a red ribbon which is the decoration of the knightly order. Yet the decoration is but a companion award to the applause of the thousands who have marvelled at her brilliant performances, first on the contest rinks of the skating associations ir* 1922, then on the ice of the Olympic Games in 1928, 1932, and 1936, and since then as a professional skater and motion pictur e star. As a Knight of the Order of St. Olaf, Miss Henie becomes a member of an order founded in 1847 by Oscar 1, King of Sweden and Norway, in memory of Olaf 11, founder of Christtianity in Norway, who was declared the patron saint of Norway in 1164. The King is the grand mafster of the order, and the Royal Princess* hold the highest class of the order. As Miss Henie is at present engaged in making a new film production in Hollywood, thb award will be presented to her by a Norwegian consul; probably at San Franei.sco or Los Angeles.
