Thinking Day Service
GUIDES AND SCOUTS AT CHURCH „ A Thinking Day service was held yesterday at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, for Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs, as part of a world-wide ceremony held on the Sunday nearest February 22, the joint birthday of the founders——Lord and Lady Baden-Powell. There was a gathering of about 180 Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs at the service at which Rev. J. C. Draper, of Christchurch, officiated. Acting-Guide Commissioner Mrs. Ivan Wilson and Commissioner N. D. Stubbs, of the Boy Scouts, were present. Miss I. Stuart, district captain, was in charge of the Guides and Scoutmaster L. Callis of the Scouts.
The church presented a colourful spectacle with the various company colours, and Mr. Draper’s sermon, which dealt chiefly with the importance of unity and co-operation, was listened to with great interest. The pennies collected each year at the Thinking Day services are all sent to headquarters and are used to assist the Guide and Scout movement.
