Shannon Sports

Prospects for the sixth annual meeting of the Shannon Sports Club seemed very unfavourable when thereatening

weather conditions culminated in the early hours of Saturday morning in steady rain, which continued until nearly 11 a.m. It was decided, however, to continue with the fixture and the optimism of the committee was justified, the weather improving rapidly. The afternoon turned out fine and the ground dry underfoot. In addition to the usual attractions a number of side-shows were present this year, and these, together with a merry-go-round, were well patronised by the big crowd present. The Highland dancing events proved to be among the most popular on the ground, and it was in the course of these that Mr. A. E. Hyde, president of the Shannon Sports Club, took the opportunity to introduce Mr. J. Colquhoun, president of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association, and Mr. R. R. Lind, of Shannon, who was one of the most successful competitors, with his team of working draughts, at the recent A. and P. Show at Levin. Mr. Colquhoun congratulated the recipient on his achievement, remarking that Mr. Lind had now annexed the Shaw cup two years in succession and had thus won it outright.
