No Play in Plunket Shield Cricket

SATURDAY’S RAIN INTERFERES Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Heavy rain on Saturday washed out tho second day’s play in the Plunket Shield match Auckland v. Wellington. The Wellington Cricket Association had insured the gate against rain and as the requisite 10 points fell, the association will benefit to the extent of £125. This is the first time the local cricket association has collected on insurance against rain although the invariable practice nowadays is to insure gates for major fixtures. The Wellington Association’s original idea was to insure the gate for £250 provided Auckland was willing to share the cost but the latter declined.

The weather cleared to-day and indications are that the wicket should rolJ out easy to-morrow. e
