Nine Days in Custody

ACCUSED OBJECTS TO REMAND. Arthur Redmond Callender, a labourer of no fixed abode, 36 years of age, appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., yesterday at the Palmerston North Magistrate's Court on the charge that on February 7, 1938, at Wellington, he stole one gold-filled sovereign case valued at 30/-, the property of Thomas Archibald Callender. Detective-Sergeant Meiklejohn asked that accused bo further remanded as the police lacked evidence in this particular case.

Callender objected as he had already been in custody nine days. He pleaded not guilty and asked that his case be Jieard soon.

Accused will be remanded to appear in Wellington on Monday.
