Terrace End School Picnic

FUNCTION AT AWAFUNI Though there was a heavy fall of rain well on in the day, the organisers of the Terrace v End School picnic, which was held at the Awapuni racecourse grounds on Thursday, were lucky in that the end had been reached of the major section of the day's activities. Throughout the morning and early afternoon the weather remained good and a most enjoyable time was spent by the children and the large number of parents in attendance. Fully 650 persons were present at the gathering, a special train being run from Terrace End right to the grounds. Games were held in the morning and at 11 a.m. the children received their usual supply of milk, which was specially taken out to them. In the afternoon a programme of races was carried through and it was just at the last race that the rain came. All then repaired to the spacious kiosk, w..ere sweets and fruit were distributed. The sports jjrogramme was under the charge of Messrs A. W. Thompson (headmaster), L. Morine (first assistant) and other members of the staff. The organisation of the outing was in the joint hands of the ladies' committee and tho school committee. Tiiose present from the ladies' committee were Mesdamt s J. Barsanti, C. A. Anderson, T. Bragg, R. Andrew, H. Johnston and H. D. Milne. The members of the school committee who attended for varying periods as convenience permitted were Messrs H. C. Blackwood, J. K. Paton, C. R. Luke, R. C. Donald, H. L. Cunninghame, and H. D. Milne. Mesdames W. B. Cameron and R. C. Donald judged the baby show.
