Oroua Downs Sports
TWENTY-THIRD ANNUAL GATHERING The twenty-third annual sports meeting of the Oroua Downs Club—the premier sports body on the west coast of this island—will be held on the excellent picnic grounds of that centre on Saturday, February 26. The programme, which is very comprehensive, embodies sports, athletic, cycling and horse eyents, and a special feature is the Highland dancing and piping sections. Attention is drawn to the fact that the local piping competition is for a march and that the section for reels and strathspeys, marches and slow marches immediately following on the programme are all B grade events. The miscellaneous collection of attractions on the programme is sufficient to provide for a gala on their own and the whole programme is so drawn up that it is sure to have a direct appeal to all tastes. Refreshments are procurable on the grounds and the day will terminate with a dance in the hall. The annual ball, by the way, will be held in the Oroua Downs hall on the Wednesday preceding the sports, February 23.
