Sir Henry Horton
RETIRES FROM DIRECTORATE OF PRESS ASSOCIATION. Per Prese Association. ROTORUA. Feb. 18. The retirement of Sir Henry Horton from the Board of Directors of the United Press Asociation was announced at the annual meeting of shareholders , at Rotorua to-day. It was mentioned that Sir Henry's late father, Mr. A. G. . Horton, had been one of the founders and first directors of the association, and satisfaction was expressed that a representative of the third generation in Sir Henray’s son, Mr. R. D. Horton, , had been appointed to the board, in suc- , cession to his father. The chairman, Mr. W. Easton, re- , ferred to Sir Henry’s invaluable work , during his thirty years' service as a member of the board. He had been , Chairman of Directors in 1912, 1922 and , 1935. , Sir Cecil Leys, in moving that, appreciation of Sir Henry Horton’s service be placed on record, said Sir Henry’s ideas had always been progressive, and his judgment sound. It was gratifying that he was to be succeeded on the board by his non, who came in with th. 9 assistance of bis youth to carry on the traditions of the family, which had given fifty-seven years of service to the association. In seconding the motion, Mr. C. W. Earle said that Sir Henry’s record as a director had been a great one, especially when its value was measured by time and the interest which his colleagues knew he had put into his activities. The motion was carried by acclamation. Sir Henry, in replying, said that it was with many Tegrets that he severed a very long and pleasing connection with the United Press Association, but he felt that ho was helping the association by making way for" somebody young to grow up in its traditions. At an earlier meeting of the directors, Messrs. T. M. Geddis and L. C. Young paid a warm tribute on behalf of the provincial papers to the very just and kindly treatment they had always received from Sir Henry Horton.
