Ashhurst
From Our Own Correspondent. The annual picnic of the Ashhurst Methodist Sunday school was held in the Domain on Saturday. During the early part of the day the weather was excellent, but just after the races had been run, rain set in which prevented any further entertainment. Results of the races are as follow: Small girls, J. Mclntyre 1, N. Treraewan 2, J. Currie 3; small boys, B. Duthie 1, M. Wood 2, I. Duthie 3; senior girls, M. Grove 1, N. Wood 2. S. Duthie 3; senior boys, K. Grove 1, R. Currie 2, J. Templeton 3; consolation race, girls, J. Hyndman 1, B. Young 2, J. Paton 3; boys, C. Tunnicliffe 1, D. Young 2; three-leggfed race, girls, N. Tremewan and J. Currie 1; boys, K. Groves and R. Tremewan 1; wheelbarrow race, K Grove and R. Tremewan 1; young ladies’ race. Miss M. Woodroofo 1; men’s race, A. Currie 1.
A team from Awahou visited the Ashhurst Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. Games were in full swing when a heavy downpour of rain spoilt the remainder of the afternoon’s play. All players adjourned to the supper-room of the town hall, where afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. Mr Linklater, on behalf of the Awahou team, thanked the Ashhurst Club for their hospitality.
