Palmerston North Horticultural Society

At the mo ithly meeting (open to all members) held on Monday evening, Mr J. Adamson presided over a fair attendance. The topics for discussion were dahlias, bulbs, and chrysanthemums. Mr A. J. Shailer gave an instructive talk on classification of dahlias, and how to stage them for exhibition. With blooms of every typo he gave a practical demonstration, much to the benefit of those present. An informal discussion on bulbs followed, much interesting information being given. Mr F. J. Melhuish gave an informative talk on chrysanthemums demonstrating how to take the “bud. 71 On the motion of Mr E. Whitcombe a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speakers. The next meeting will bo held on March 14, when a larger attendance is expected. Those who attend these meetings are sure to get new ideas and information about horticulture. Questions are invited. The monthly competition was won by Mrs D. James (gladioli), with Air A. Graham (zinnias), 2nd, and Mrs J. Louisson (asters), 3rd.
