Analysis of Water Supply

DR. D. COOK’S REPORT. The Tiritea water supply, which was the cause of some discussion during the recent period of hot weather, was the subject of a report received by the Palmerston North County Council from the district medical officer of health (Dr. D. Cook). The report states: — “Following an inspection of the Tiritea water supply on February 9, and after my interpretation of the chemical and bacteriological analyses of December 6 last, I am of the opinion that no danger to health exists from tlio use of the water of the Tiritea Stream.

“The unpleasant odours and tastes which have recently been experienced are probably due to the decomposition of vegetable matter, but as this condition appears to have been temporary, remedial measures do not appear to be necessary in the meantime. “It is my intention at an early date to inspect the whole watershed with the object of becoming fully acquainted with your problem. Any opinions I form after my inspection will be communicated to you in due course. 7 7
