SHARP CATTLE RISE

Partciularly Short Yarding STORTFORD VALUES From Our Own Correspondent. HASTINGS, Feb. 16. Due to a very short yarding of only 80 head of station cattle, values for fat pens at Stortford Lodge to-day took a sharp rise on top of late advanced rates. Ox beef sold at 37/6 per lOOlbs . with some entries making almost to 40/- per 1001 b. The female offering was the smallest known for several years, there being only about 20 head which advanced up to 30/- a head. In the ox-beef pens the principal entry was a draft of 50 bullocks down from Rukumcana Station, Te Pohue. These bullocks came forward in good order, the four days’ drive on the road having no ill effect on them. The heaviest realised to £l4 15/- and a' good percentage exceeded the £l2 mark. Competition throughout was particularly keen, with all sorts in demand. The miscellaneous mixed-bred sorts, poorly finished, well below butchers' quality, all made very dear buying, which was due to butchers not being able to show any discrimination. Realisations were as under:— OX BEEF VALUES Down from Te Aute, four horned Hereford and Hereford-cross bullocks, medium to well formed, the best in good summer condition, sold to £l3 5/-. From the same source three unfinished Aberdeen-cross bullock*, in light order, sold well at £lO 2/8. From the same source, a single heavy well-framed heavy prime-finish-ed Aberdeen Angus bullock brought £l4 10/-. In the same pen three smaller - framed A.A. - cross bullocks made £l2 5/-. From the same source, four small to medium-grown bullocks, prime finished and would average not more than 625 lbs., brought £ll 15/-.
