From Our Own Correspondent. On Saturday last Miss Norma Terry’s girl friends organised a jolly dance as a farewell party to her before she enters Training College in Wellington. Dance music was supplied by Messrs Brill and Crighton. Mr O. Batehelar carried out the duties of M.C. Mr T. D. Lynch congratulated Norma on her succesf in passing her examination and trusted she would have the same success in the future. Miss Sybil Young wished Norma every success in the future and asked Miss Doris Buglass to make her a small presentation. Norma thanked her friends for their kindness. Novelty dances were enjoyed and items were rendered by Miss Pat Over and Mr C. Henderson. W.l. Mseting. The February meeting of the Women's Institute was held on Wednesday, when Mrs Harris presided over a good attendance. Arrangements were finalised for the group rally to be held on February 23. Mrs Simpson, of Woodville, gave a talk and display of her handwork, and,was accorded a vote of thanks. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Gore. Bowler and Wishneski. The competition for meringues was won by Mrs Bowler. Mrs D. Currin filling second and third places. Personal. Mr and Mrs Batehelar have left on a motor tour of the North. Mr and Mrs C. Terry motored to Wellington where Miss Norma has entered the Teachers’ Training College. Mr and Mrs T. Lynch, accompanied byMrs R. A. Beckett, motored to Wellington via Wairarapa. Masters Neil Beckett and Alan Lynch have commenced their studies at St. Pat’s College, Silversiream. Mrs J. L. Nash and Trevor are holidaying at Otakl beach, Trevor having recently undergone a slight operation. Miss Nancy Lynch is a visitor to Maslerton Mr J. Irvine is making good progress after his recent operation. Mr Peter Sheridan is on his annual holiday. Mr Roy Gooch is home again after having spent a week in hospital. Mr Turnbull (Palmerston North) has taken up his ruties as relieving teacher at the local school. The Garden Circle met in the Church hall to distribute their daffodil bulbs, there being a good attendance of members. A happy afternoon concluded with afternoon tea. The combined picnic of the school, Farmers’ Union, and W.X., will be held at Waitarere on Saturday next, and an enjoyable day is promised. School Committee. Those present at the first meeting of the school committee for 193 S were Messrs R. A. Beckett. F. Batehelar. W. Gilliland, E. Crawford (secretary), T. D. Lynch (chairman). Mr Turnbull, head teacher, was welcomed by the committee, Mr K. White’s resignation as head teacher was received with regret, and the committee placed on record its appreciation of the work and loyal assistance rendered by him during his term or office. The high standard uf work of the pupils and the splendid tone of the school was attributable to his untiring efforts, and Mr White carries with him the best wishes of the committee for his future prosperity and advancement. It was decided to approach the Education Board re more assistance towards bus transport of the children at* tending school. A combined meeting of Farmers’ Union, school committee and W.l. members was held to finalise the picnic arrangements. Car drivers with vacant seats are asked to communicate with Mr R. A. Beckett.
