Feilding Coming-of-age Party
A very happy coming-of-age party was given by Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Cooke, of Kawa Kawa road, for their daughter Gwen, in the Odd Fellows’ hall, Feilding, on Monday evening. Some eighty guests, who had come from Linton, Foxton, Fitzherbert East, Palmerston North and Feilding, were welcomed by Mrs. Cooke, who was wearing a navy blue matalasse frock relieved with beige. She was assisted by her daughter, who was wearing a pretty frock. of Windsor blue cloque with silver accessories.* Dancing and competitions were indulged in, the music being supplied by Mr. F. Feeney, while Mr. G. Pitman made an excellent M.C.
The winners of the competitions were: Miss F. Robinson (red-hot poker), Miss G. Cooke (musical arms), Mrs. L. D. Legge (parcel), Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pitman (Monte Carlo), Miss B. Dungey and B. Cumings (lucky Bpot).
After a most sumptuous supper, Mr. T. L. Seddon, on behalf of those present, extended to Miss Cooke their good wishes for her future health and happiness. Miss Cooke returned thanks and then proposed the health of her parents, a toast which was enthusiastically honoured. Replying, Mr. Cooke handed his daughter the traditional gold key, which the guests initialled. Congratulations to Mr. Roy Robinson, whose twenty-first birthday coincided with the evening’s festivities, were extended, on behalf of the company by Mr. Pitman.
Musical honours were accorded the young people, after which dancing was kept up till after midnight, when “Auld Lang Syne” brought a happy evening to a close.
