Was Mala Injured Before Derby ?
EVIDENCE FOR DEFENCE United P 1 ess Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 9.20 p.m. SYDNEY, Juue 24. When the Mala case was resumed to-day John Gaxieu, official starter for the Australian Jockey Club, gavo evidence for the defence. He said at the start of the last Derby Mala looked all right and showed no signs of lameness. In fact he settled down well at the barrier. Leslie Fraser, who is a senior A.J.C. steward, said Mala appeared a little fretful and was sweating a little more than usual and did not appear to be in his usual condition prior to the start of the Derby, but witness did not notice any soreness or lameness. The case was adjourned.
