Swims Six Inches from Death for Child
FLOODED 750 ft. CONDUIT Hearing that Kathleen Blades, aged live, had fallen into a beck, Police-Ser-geant Patterson, of Masbam (Yorks/, swam in darkness through a 750 ft conduit, flooded to within 6in. of the top, in a vain attempt to save her. He was able to breathe only by bolding his mouth to the roof of the tunnel. The child's body was recovered five days later at a spot four miles from where she fell in. At the inquest at Masham, the coroner, Dr. Francis tt. Eddison, said Patterson ’s action was one of the bravest ho had hoard of, and he deserved special I recognition. The verdict was accidental death.
