SUCCESS OF NORTHERN CLUB. During the years the Northern Club has been established it has made considerable growth both in the number of playing areas and in membership and to-day comprises 72 bowlers, 45 croquet members and 120 tennis members. The croquet players have taken a very prominent part in New Zealand contests and won many trophies. The bowling section of the club whilst equally enterprising has not really done very much apart from winning the Alanawatu Centre’s champion of champion singles in 1933 and 1936. This season, however, more success has attended the clu% in games with other clubs and in various competitions. This is due in great measure to tho fact that the club has two bowling greens and is able to provide ample opportunity to members for practice, and also to the fact that amongst the 17 new members this season there are several very skilled players whose influence has been all to the good. The club had six entries in the Easter Ifianawatu bowling tournament and four of them qualified with at least six wins for post-section play. One rink, skipped by Mr. P. Skoglund, secured third place in the tournament. At the Marlborough Easter tournament a rink, comprising B. Reed, S. Parsons, R. Moxon and O. N. Rabono (skip) from the Northern Club was successful in winning the tourney. At the present time the club holds the Dixon Cup and Tucker Badges, a trophy that has been competed for in the Manawatu Centre since 1908. The Centre’s pairs champion of champions contest has yet to be finalised and Northern’s pair, Reed and Stableford, have to play in the final game. On Saturday next on the Northern green the Alanawatu Centre’s champion of champions rinks contest will be held and the club has a strong rink entered for this contest. The members of the club feel particularly pleased that the Manawatu Centre executive selected the Northern green for the finals of the Easter tournament and that despite the very wet weather on Tuesday three rounds were able to be played on the club's No. 2 green which was conSlt?&rably drier than the No. 1 green which was able to be used on Wednesday foi the semi-final and final games.
