Freezing Works Dispute at Auckland

APPLICATION WAS MADE TO POLICE TOR MEN'S EVICTION. Per Piess Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Immediately that they had knowledge that the men were going to stay in the works, the Auckland freezing companies made application to Superintendent of Police Till for the eviction of the men, stated a representative of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Co., Ltd., when the Minister’s statement that no demand was wasted in making the request, because it was considered the men were committing a breach of law by staying illegally on the premises after being paid off. The application was not complied with, however, because, Superintendent Till said, he had received instructions from Wellington not to take any action. This statement was confirmed by the representative of W. and R. Fletchr, Ltd. He said the sergeant of police at Otahuhu was asked first, but the request was sent on the Superintendent Till at the sergeant’s requost. The demand for clearance of the works was made in concert by the companies, and it was also made befose the Ministei arrived.
