Mrs. E. C. Graham, of Palmerston North, is visiting Auckland. Visiting Wellington is Mrs W. Mor--1 ton Bullen, of Palmerston North. Mrs. A. J. McEvedy, of Palmerston North, has been visiting Wellington. Mrs. Shelton, of Palmerston North, is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. J. Thomson, of Hawera. Mr and Mrs A. D. Barkwith, of Takaro, Palmerston North, have returned home after a holiday visit to Wellington. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly dance held by the West End School Committee on Tuesday night, Mr. W. Collins being M.C. Prize winners were Miss Sylva and Mr. McLean (Gay Gordons) and Miss Dalziel and Mr. D. Proctor (Monte Carlo). An extra was played by Miss Lampard. After a long illness, the death occurred last week at the New Plymouth Hospital of Mrs Miria Edwin, at the ■ age of 58 years, states the Taranaki Daily News. Mrs Edwin was formerly Miria Kurawhatia, daughter of the late Chief Kurawhatia, of the Whanganui aud Wainui-arua tribes, who was one of the signatories of the Treaty of Waitangi. Her mother was Ngareta Paraone, of the Te Atiawa tribe. Mrs Edwin was born at the Manukorihi pa and the funeral took place there. In 1897 she married Mr James Edwin, Waikanae, and for a number M years* resided in the Waitara and Motunui districts. She was held in high esteem by both Matris and pakehas. She was always a willing helper in social functions in connection with the Motunui Hall, and took a keen interest in any activities for the district’s welfare. For a number of years she entertained at her residence members of the Taranaki Hunt Club, of which Mr Edwin has been a prominent member for the past twentysix years. She is survived by her husband, three sons, Messrs N. M. aud W. Edwin (Motunui), and four daughters, Mesdames A. A. Jackson (Melbourne), R. Trass and H. Rowe (Uronui), and G. Haddon (Waitara).
