From Our Own Correspondent. Herrington Golf Club. Mr M. B. Berg-in presided over a meet* : Ins of the" committee members of the Her- ' rington Golf Cltib. The resignation from ; the committee of Mr F. A. Mason, who 1 has left the district, was received with regret, and Mr A, P. Easton, a late member of the committee, was unanimously elected to fill the vacancv. The balance [ sheet showed a credit balance of £37 8s | Bd, and was approved for submission to ; the general meeting. Ffteen new members were elected to th club (9 men and 6 la- ' dies) and it was mentioned that there ■ were others pending. In view of the in--1 creased membership the club is looking 1 forward to a successful season. It was 1 decided that the 1937-38 season open on ' Saturday, March 20., and that a nine- ’ hole mixed foursome should be played, ; play commencing at 1.30 p.m. It was de--1 aided that the club should avail themselves of the accident insurance scheme i 1 outlined by the N.Z. Golf Council, without ; any extra cost to the individual players. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr M. H. Bergin; club captain, Mi' L. C. Bryant; ground superintendent, Mr A. P. Easton; hon. secretary, Mr J. Newton; committee: Messrs D. R. Ogilvy, J. D. Purcell, R. Robinson; match committee: Messrs L. C. Bryant, J. D. Purceell and T. Crotty. Methodist Ladies' Guild. Mr 3 H. Berry (president) presided over the social afternoon of the Methodist Ladies' Guild. Rev. Brown related interesting news in connection with the church and made reference to the fact that at the Auckland conference special mention had been made of the church work which was being carried out in Foxton. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames C. W. Brown, H. Berry and A. E. Bloomfield. Personal. Miss F. Thymic, of Auckland, who has been spending a holiday in Foxton with Mrs E. S. Thynne, of ~K awaroa," left on Wednesday for Featherston, - where she will spend a few days prior to returning home. Mr B. A. Younghushand. of Napier, is at present on a holiday visit to Foxton, and is the guest of Mr and Mrs E. Titcombe, of Robinson street. A very old local identity in the person of Mrs E. Brown, of Auckland, is at present on a visit to Foxton. She is accompanied by her daughter, Mrs V. E. Redtern and together they are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Walls, of Main street. Messrs C. McArtney (delegate), J. Scott. W. Broad and Jas. L’oiey, left FoxtOh on Friday morning en route for Nelson, where they will attend the annual conference and display of fire brigades. They will be absent for eight or nine days, and it is intended to compete in the 3-men. 2-men ancl Gilbert Memorial one-man run, Mr R. L. Heath, of Foxton, was the successful shareholder in the No. 8 group of the Starr-Bowkett Building Society m a ballot drawn on Wednesday evening last for £3OO. A committee meeting of the Foxton Racing Club was held on Thursday evening when preliminary arrangements were made in connection with the club’s winter rfteetlng to be held on May 29. It was decided to increase the stakes for the meeting from £6OO to £BOO. Mr C. Peterson's lender was accepted for the purchaso of trees on the course.
