She Sought Beauty By Faith Healing

UGLY GIRL JOINED PILGRIMAGE TO ‘MIRACLE PASTOR’S’ ABBEY In olden days girls were wont to visit St. Catherine’s Chapel on a slope near Milton Abbey Church, on tho Dorset Downs, and beseech St. Catherine tfl send them husbands. Nowadays, the modern spinster has forgotten all about St. Catherine, but something akin to the ancient practice occurred recently. A pilgrimage of 500 to the faithhealing at Milton Abbey was joined by a girl in search of beauty. She wants a husband, but her unprel- - looks are her chief obstacle to matrimony. Men simply pass her by. So she thought she might be helped by attending the healing centre run by Rev. John Maillard, known as the "miracle man,” who conducts spiritual healing work in London and Brighton. The chaplain, Fr. Edwards, told a reporter after the service: “I do not know this girl. If any woman came with the primary object of getting her looks improved she would be disappointed.’’ The service was tho sixth which has been held since Milton Abbey was opened as a faith-healing centre in June. Mr. Maillard is planning several important extensions at Milton Abbey costing £IO,OOO. “He plans to build a retreat house, a convalescent home, and a children’s hospital,” Fr. Edwards said. “Mr Maillard is makiug a public appeal for £IO,OOO to cover the cost of the work. “Next year he is touring the United States to lecture on spiritual healing. He hopes to raise £60,000 by the time the tour is completed. I think that spiritual healing will sweep the whole of America.”
