Boisterous Weather in Feilding

NOR'-WESTERLY GALE SWEEPS TOWN If for no other reason citizens of Feilding and settlers of the district will remember the 1936-37 festive season for the extremely variablo weather conditions experienced capped by yesterday's nor’-westerly gale which as it screeched and wailed over the countryside put all plant life to a severe test and caused all wooden buildings to creak upon their foundations. Tuesday’s calm and extremely humid conditions did not terminate in the expected thunderstorm but gave way in tho early hours of Wednesday morning to a lashing nor'-wester accompanied by drenching rain. These conditions prevailed until dawn when the raiu passed off but the high wind persisted to the dismay of everybody. Gardens and orchards in unsheltered positions suffered extensively. Apples and late stone fruit became true windfalls and the losses must have been considerable. Flowers and vegetables suffered as well, whilo in many cases the' lighter branches of trees were cut off by the force of the wind. Generally the w'eather conditions have been decidedly unpleasant and certainly disappointing to gardeners, to say nothing of the experiences of holiday-makers who have had little of that real summer weather which contributes so much to the success of a holiday.
