Apiti
From Our Own Correspondent Mr and Airs James Martin, who have resided for tho past few years at Marton Block, have now gone to Wanganui and will make their home at Castlecliff. Air and Airs Martin are both staunch members of the Presbyterian Church and they will be missed from the congregation here, especially Airs Martin, whoso pleasant singing voice was such a help in the musical part of the services. Mrs Martin was also a very interested member of the W.D.F.U., and her friends will join in wishing her and her husband much happiness in their new sphere. Air and Airs O. Brabyn, of Marton, are holidaying in Apiti with Air and Airs A. W. Benseman. Rev. G. Budd, superintendent of the missions committee of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, has requested Rev. A. F. Stewart to remain in Apiti for a further year. Rev. Stewart and Mrs Stewart arc at present on holiday and it is not yet known whether or not it will suit them to remain, as Air Stewart finds tho severe winters here rather trying. The heavy rain experienced here on New Year’s Day caused the postponement of many local picnics. Several lacing enthusiasts motored over to the Marton meeting, and motor-cycle racing “fans” set off for Palmerston North, not knowing that the motor sports had been postponed. There is much hay ready for mowing in various parts of the district, and while the frequent rain showers of late have been most beneficial to the root crops, there are many farmers who would welcome a spell of fine weather in order to get through some haymaking.
Tho members of tho Women’s institute, too, hope for a fine day next Tuesday for their garden party nTeeting to be held at the home of Mr and Airs William AlcKay.
