NEW YEAR’S EVE SPORTS. From Our Own Correspondent. The ninth annual New Year’s Eve ! sports held on tho Recreation Ground were a great success. A large crowd was present, and under the following officials the meeting passed off without a hitch: Director of sports, Mr. W. Davies; stewards, Messrs. W. S. Page, J. S. Martin, F. M. Saywell, E. W. Cowdrey, J. Curtis, A. H. McNae, J. McKay; handicapper and starter, Mr. G. Burgess. The following are tho results: Tiny tots (under 6): Lorna. Fergussou 1, Pam McNae 2, Bruce Cowdrey 3. Girls, 6-10 years: P. Judd 1, N. McNae 2, B. Mcßride 3. Boys, G-10 years: O. Hughes 1, B. Fergusson 2, D. Bryant 3. Girls, 11-15 years; R. Mexted 1, D Mexted 2, N. Wischnowslcy 3. Clapham and Miss J. Wilson 2. Boys’ 400 yards: W. Kereama 1, G. Judd 2. Girls’ 400 yards: AI. Paraniki 1, AI. Wilson The tug-of-war caused great excitement and some very strenuous contests took place. In the first round 11. Dais’ team managed to gain the advantage and hold it for the required two minutes, thus defeating S 3. Johanssen.’s team. In the final Burnside (L. Pye’s) team had no great difficulty in defeating the winners of tho first round. Tho ladies, not to bo outdone, soon produced three teams and caused no little amusement with their strenuous efforts. Iu tho first round City beat Kakariki, but were themselves beaten in the final by Suburbs. After the sports, the crowd adjourned to tho Jubilee Ilall, where they danced the New Year in.
