Awapuni Horses For Woodville

CONDITIONS WERE IDEAL TOR YESTERDAY’S TRIALS. The conditions were ideal for track work at Awapuni yesterday morning and with the Woodville meeting only two days off and the centre fairly well represented, the programme was particularly interesting, a number of horses being sent against the watch. Tho Great Northern Derby candidate, Martara, who will carry 7.11 in tho Bolton Handicap at Woodville, was galloped a mile at a very early hour, and without shoes ho cut tho distance out in 1.48. ■ G. Tattersall, who will ride him at Woodville, was in the saddle, and Martara was clear ot his companion, Ingenuity (D. Mansfiold) at tho finish.., Martara.is not being hurried in his preparation for the Guineas, but he looks particularly well. Vonia Park (J. Chaplin) and Party (Tattersall)' were others which worked early and the former was in front at the end of a five-furlong scamper which took them 1.64.

Huntette sprinted threo furlongs in 40sec., and Limbohm, with W. J. Broughton in tho saddle, was not flat out except over the last bit to cut the same distance out in 42. Limbohm is improving steadily. T. Dornan, tho likely lad apprenticed to W. Goscomb, piloted Black Thread in a six-furlong flutter and Black Thread, after taking 39 1-5 for the first three, completed in 1.19 4-5. One of tho most interesting gallops of the morning was that in which Dungarvan (L. A. Pine), Cloudy Bay (S. Anderson) and Round Score (W. J. Broughton) were associated. It was over a mile and Dungarvan, after jumping away smartly, gave over to Cloudy Bay, who set the pace for well over five furlongs. Tho first five furlongs took 1.9 1-5, and Round Score was practically on terms with Cloudy Bay when they turned for home. Round Score then shot out with Dungarvan in pursuit. Pifty yards from the post it looked as if Round Score was going to win the trial, but Dungarvan, who always goes generously for L. A. Pine, made a brilliant dab to collar Round Score right on tho'line. No announcement has yet been made about Dungarvan’s Christmas racing, but it is understood that he will start in the Manawatu Cup. Goscomb’s pair,. Whakao and Fine Stitch, were sprinted half a mile and the former was soon making the pace for herself, finishing well clear in 54 2-5.

Hunting Lodge (Broughton) was too good for Alloa (Anderson) over six furlongs, and after running the first three in 40 l-ssec., she finished well clear of Alloa in 1.20 2-5.

Dawning Light, with L. A. Pino in the saddle, was coasting along at the end of five furlongs, which took 1.8. Le Toquet was worked on the plough, cutting four furlongs out in 57. Silent Acre (A. McDonald) and Gold Nymph (Broughton) were worked over a mile on the course proper and Gold Nymph made the pace all the way. Silent Acre, however, was going nicely and he finished strongly only a head away from Gold Nymph at the post. Tho time was 1.51 1-5, which was not bad considering that the flags wore in the middle of the course.

Bodylino (Anderson) scampered over three furlongs in 39, and Symcony (L. A. Pine) sprinted three down the back stretch in 38, beginning brilliantly to cut the first two furlongs out in 25 1-5. Happy Hunting (Broughton) sprinted sis furlongs alone and, without being out after time, took 1.21 4-5. Wild Flower (Tattersall) drew away from Tipsy Miss (Anderson) in a fivei'urlong task which took 1.6 4-5. Finnesko (Broughton) and Old Surrey (Anderson) were associated in a smart flutter over thrco furlongs, and, after Old Surrey had set it alight until half way down the straight, Finnesko finished very fast to get the verdict by a head. Mr Leo Collinson’s pair moved

very sweetly to cut the distance out in 38 3-5. Another fine work-out was that of Corroboree (R. Chisholm), who moved like a good ’un to run the mile in 1.48 1-5. Ho was going evenly throughout and the first fivo took him 1.6 1-5. His companion was Black Fox (Scobie), who picked him up at the five, and Black Fox was not far away from him at tho finish.
