Utuwai

From Our Own Correspondent The Utuwai Women’s Institute December meeting, held last Wednesday, proved the usual cheerful gathering. Mrs Mackenzie welcomed visitors from Apiti and Halcombe. Mrs C. Stanley, Apiti, gave an interesting talk on war work of the Royal Naval Service, of which she was a member. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Harkness and Mrs B. M. Flavell. Arrangements were concluded for the Christmas tree for the district children. Letters of appreciation were read from the secretaries of the Makogai leper fund and the health stamp campaign for donations forwarded. A successful bring and buy stall showed a wealth of garden produce. The winners of the points competition were:—Seniors, Mrs Harkness; juniors, Miss M. Harkness 1, Miss O Henning 2. The hostesses for the January meeting will be Mrs T. Searle, Mrs A. H. Roberts and Miss J. Searle, and the competitions, best slice of home-made Christmas cake and a shower bouquet (seniors), best three pieces shortbread and a posy (juniors).
