From Our Own Correspondent Women's Institute. Mrs Marshall presided over a fair attendance of members at tho monthly meeting held last Wednesday. Mrs Gill, senr., was a welcome visitor to the meeting. It was decided that the Christmas tree party bo hold in the hall on Saturday afternoon, December 19, Father Christmas to be in attendance. It was also decided that the usual meeting be held next month and the pier.io some time in February, the date to be decided later. Besides the usual collection of good things on tho stall, there was also a.display of both useful and ornamental articles made by tho disabled returned soldiers. 1 .Members were invited to older articles for Christmas gifts. A very interesting report oil the half-yearly council meeting held-in Palmerston North was given by Miss Clere. A demonstration was given by Miss M. Guy, who explained the art of smocking and samples of same were much admired. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames A. Callingham, Winder and Misses D. Callinghani and Nola Jefferies, following which Mrs Gili kindly judged tho competitions as follows.—Best dressed Is doll: Seniors, Mrs A. Green 1, Mrs Cockburn 2; juniors, Miss J. Dunstan 1, Miss V. Green 2. Scones. Mrs Rosser 1, Mrs Cockburn 2. The following points prizes have been donated:—Cooking prize, Mrs A. Groves; prize for greatest weight of potatoes, Mrs Rosser; prize for the best bloom, Mrs Winder. Tne competition for the January meeting will be "Decorated Coathanger" and the cocking competition. ‘‘Sponge Roil” (jam), the hostesses for that meeting will be Mesdames E. and C. Christian, C. Caiiingham, R. Cockburn. Personal. Mrs T. Jefferies, "Burford." has returned homo from Wellington. Mrs Nitschke, Dunolly, and her small daughter have returned home from a delightful holiday of some months spent in England. Mr and Mrs W. Humphrey’s friends wih regret to learn that their son John is at present in hospital with a fractured leg, caused by his horse slipping on the asphalt on Kimbolton road recently. Mr W. Raywortli, "Forest Bend,” and his daughter, Miss Muriel Royworth, are at present touring the South Island.
