"Garden” Afternoon at Feilding

Mesdames J. Simpson and P. E. Simpson were joint hostesses at a “garden” afternoon on Saturday for Miss Jean Stuart-Moray. Miss Eileen Simpson assisted with the party, which was hold at her parents' homo in Kawa Ivawa road, and as fine weather allowed of its being held in the attractive grounds an exceedingly enjoyable time evontuatcd. The beautiful prize dahlias for which Mrs. Simpson's garden is noted were looking at their best and were a glory to behold, while handsome peouies, roses and other dowers in great variety added further rich colouring. The closely trimmed lawns and grounds generally gave evidence of much careful attention Which was well repaid for they assuredly presented an appearance of particular charm. Not only were games and competitions held out of doors but the very lavish afternoon tea was also dispensed thero so that it was a “garden” afternoon indeed. The tea tables were given a light and dainty finish with sweet peas and the competition prizes were won by Mesdames It. Robinson (grandmother of the guest of honour) and 11. Hayden.

At an opportune moment Miss Eileen Simpson called upon Miss 'Stuart-Moray to accept and open the parcels taken along by her friends and when unwrapped a wonderful assortment of vegetable, flower and pot plants was disclosed, as well as seeds, garden tools of all descriptions and gloves. The bride-elect, who was quite overwhelmed with such kindness, mado a very gracious little speech of thanks, and was afterwards given musical honours. Her frock for the occasion was well chosen in that it was a simple little girlish creation of white silk over which gay little rosebuds ran riot and with it she wore a shady hat of soft green straw finished with a posy of flowers. Mrs. James Simpson received in a gown of floral georgetto relieved with beige, and Mrs. P. R. Simpson in a frock of silver grey silk marocain with touches of red and a hat to match. Miss Simpson woro silk marocain with a floral pattern in tones of red, beigo and black. Among those at the party were Mesdames B, Eobinson, E. Stuart-Moray, Reid, senr. and junr. (Palmerston North), W. E. Baker, W. D. E. Baker, J. Cumings, E. Laing, H. Hayden, C. Avery, E.'Petty, E. Sherrard, W. Huddlestonc, Earl Reid, M. Eeunett, E. Bennett, Chalk (Palmerston North), W. Malcolmsou, G. Baker and Misses E. Huddlestone, L. Baker, V. Petersen, I. Amer, J. Thurston, N. Cumings and M. Carne.
