Mrs. Edward Wilson, C.8.E., .widow of the famous explorer, Dr. Wilson, will shortly arrive in New Zealand by the Akaroa and while in the Dominion will be the guest of Lady Wigruni, of Christchurch.

The insignia of Dame of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem was conferred on Lady Ferguson on Wednesday. evening by. the GovernorGeneral, Lord Galway, oh behalf of his Majesty, the King, states a Dunedin message.

News has been received in Wanganui of the death of Miss Mary Fairbairn, which took place recently at Edinburgh, where she had gone for a holiday. Miss Fairbairn was the first matron at the Collegiate School, and after many years in Wanganui went to St. Margaret’s College in Dunedin.

New Zealanders will learn with regret of the death of Miss Phoebe Emily Vogel, only daughter of the late Sir Julius and Lady Vogel, who passed away at Brighton on October 26. Miss Vogel had been in ill-health for some time. Heart failure was the immediate cause of death. It is many years since, with her parents and her brothers —Mr. H. B. Vogel and Mr. Julius Vogel—sho went to live in England, but she was always in touch with New Zealand friends.

Young folk of the city are already seeking relaxation from studies in other centres in their home environment. Among those who have returned to Palmerston North are Miss Peggy Young, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. C. Young, North street, who is a student at Canterbury University College; also Miss Helen Luke, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Luke, Victoria avenue, who has been furthering her studies at Dunedin University, and Miss Margaret Oram, daughter of Mr and Mrs M. H, Oram, from Canterbury University College.

A wedding having New Zealand interest took place at Capetown on October 5. The bride was Mary Veronica, youngest daughter of the : late W. C. Macdonald, of Salisbury, Rhodesia, and of Mrs. F. J, Moore, of Burgess Hill, Sussex. She is a nieco of Mr. A. K. Scobio Mackenzie and Dr. W. Marshall Macdonald, of Wellington, and a great niece of the late Sir Francis Dillon Bell. The marriage took place from the house of her sister, Mrs. D. S. Blades. The bridegroom was Richard Cyril Neale, third son of the late Sydney R. Shutte, and of Mrs. Shutte, of Kirkwood, Eastern Province, South Africa. The future home of the young couple will be in South Africa. The bride’s mother is the well-known authoress, Sheila Macdonald.

Dr. Adah Platts-Mills, who has returned to New Zealand after an absence of five years abroad, and is taking up an appointment with the school medical service of the Health Department, is, with her father, Mr. J. F. Mills, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Collinson, of Palmerston North. Her mother, Dr. D. E. Platts-Mills, is visiting her son, Mr. E. F. Mills, of Grey street. Dr. Adah PlattsMills took her medical degree in New Zealand and was a house, surgeon in the Wellington Hospital before going to' England. She was on the staffs of the British Hospital and London County Council Hospitals in London, where she specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology and qualified D.C.O.G. For the last two years she has been in private practice in Bournemouth, and her parents have resided with her in England.
