From Our Own Correspondent Mr N. Cotton, of Lower Hutt. lias been the guest of Mr and Mrs L. Holland. Mrs E. Shaw has returned home and is at present staying with her daughter, Mrs A. Baker. Mrs M. Hasen has returned home after visiting friends in Wellington. Fancy Dress Ball. There was an excellent’ attendance in tho Newbury hall last Thursday evening, when the Parents’ Association held a plain and fancy dress ball for the schoolchildren. Mrs W. Watson and Mrs H. Palmer,- of Palmerston North, kindly judged tho costumes, the awards being as follows: —Best fancy dress (.girls): Phyllis Wilson, “Raratongan girl,” in the seniors, and Betty Wilson “Imp,”ln the juniors. Best boy: Senior, Keith Verry, "John Bull’’; junior, Noel Heath, "bell boy.” Most original junior girl, Lois Macauley, “stocking bag”; junior boy, Ivan McCauley, “cat.” Most original senior girl, Joan Sanne, “Eve”; senior boy, John Wild, "swagger.” Mrs D. Watson’s special prize, Hector Burbury, “coster.” Among the fancy costumes worn were: Lorna Verry, night; Pat Cave, Miss R)38; Joan Krivan, a circus; Hazel Wild, bride and bridegroom; Sylvia Hansen, Swedish girl; Jlargaret Macauley, snow queen; Elsie Young, Spanish dancer; Joan Sanne, Eve; Phyllis Wilson, Raratongan girl; Joy Meehan, gipsy; Norah O’Farrel, Brasso; Eileen O’Farrel, Early Victorian; Muriel Morris, Eat More Fruit; Norma Galloway, soldier; Lois McCauley, knitting bag; Betty Wilson, imp; Betty Young, Dutch girl; Lorna. After supper, dancing was carried on until a late hour to music supplied by a. professional orchestra. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss N. Ross and Mr Thompson. Mr Sanne carried out the duties of M.C. The cakes, kindly donated by Messrs Kelly and Davis, of Palmerston North, were won by Miss Oak, with Miss Rousio second, both of Awahuri.
